fall cottage guide

There’s no better place to enjoy autumn than nestled in the lap of nature in cottage country. Think warm fires and fire red leaves. Think serene, warm days and perfectly crisp nights. At the Loughborough Inn, we have a front row seat to the beauty and bounty of this spectacular season. It’s easy to see why fall is by far one of our favourite times of year.

We want to spread the love for the season by sharing our favourite fall cottage activities. Between the holidays, the great fishing and the incredible show put on by Mother Nature, there’s never a dull moment.

The Fall Cottage Guide

Thanksgiving

A cornucopia of colours and favourable mild weather will remind you that there’s never been more to be thankful for. Invite your family and friends to the cottage this season for Thanksgiving and soak in the true spirit of the holiday. No need to decorate – Mother Nature has done it for you!

Halloween

Spending this spooky holiday at the cottage may seem unconventional, but dark forests and full moons are what Halloween haunts are made of! Halloween at the cottage is especially ideal for groups of friends, couples, or families with children who are too young or old for trick or treating.

Fall Fishing

Autumn is an anglers dream! In fact, fall fishing is commonly regarded as the best time of year – especially if you’re fishing for bass. One of the main reasons for this is because the cooler temperature of the water makes the bass more active, and this increase in activity necessitates an increase in the need to feed. Translation: your bait is looking even more attractive to these hungry fish!

Changing Colours

Being in cottage country in the autumn is like living in Technicolor. The changing colours of the leaves are nothing short of breathtaking and the temperature is perfectly suited to spending loads of time outside hiking, exploring, boating, fishing and generally kicking up leaves and soaking in your surroundings.

What to Bring

Packing for the cottage in the autumn is easy, but it does come with its own unique set of requirements. The main thing you’ll want to consider is the wide variation in temperature and weather. We’ve compiled a list of items you’ll want to make sure you bring so you can thoroughly enjoy the most vibrant of seasons.

Packing List:

  • Warm clothes for evenings as well as the cooler days (includes footwear, innerwear and outerwear, so don’t forget warm shoes/boots, long underwear as well as hats and even mitts!)
  • Cooler clothing options for sunny days – yes, even shorts, swimsuits, tank tops and flip flops. You really can’t predict the weather come autumn!
  • Sunscreen (again, for those sunny days – even if it’s cooler out.)
  • Rain gear
  • Seasonal activities for the kids (e.g. scrap books to collect leaves, paper and crayons for leaf impressions, a list of autumn objects for a scavenger hunt.)
  • A camera (to capture the colours and the memories!)

Even if you don’t own a cottage, enjoying autumn at the cottage doesn’t have to be a distant dream. The Loughborough Inn is glad to welcome you to the shores of Loughborough Lake for an unforgettable fall cottage getaway. Our cozy luxury cottages and cabins were made for fall fun and frivolity.
